We've been in the graphics business for quite a while
The more things change, the more they stay the same
The tools have changed, many times over, but the principles of sound design and illustration remain consistent throughout time. This is a portfolio site, so I no longer haul around my large, heavy, leather portfolio to show off work from previous jobs. Still, I find myself going through the same process of selecting and culling artwork according to my best guess as to what the market will be looking for.
What I'm looking for, of course, is the kind of work that has not been done - yet.
The one thing I tried hardest to communicate to students, when teaching graphics courses, was to learn how to learn. Since the time of Gutenburg, the graphics industry has been a high speed target, always moving into new dimensions (literally!).
As artists, we are all struggling to balance creativity and beauty with deadlines and budgets. Inspiration vs pragmatism. In the end, both have their lessons for us. Many of my most valuable techniques were learned out of necessity. They not only made difference between profit and loss, but also between functionality and foolishness.
The web site is nowhere near complete, but once again, inspiration and pragmatism have been working their magic, and SOMETHING had to be posted.
There is always room for improvement, and I welcome your comments. I hope to have a blog section up and running soon, along with a few pages of tutorials, as well. Stay tuned!
